And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25 Usually when we talk about stirring someone up, it’s not necessarily a good thing. For example, a brother says something that he knows will get his sister stirred up, usually ending in an argument. Or we watch the news and get stirred up by the inefficiency of Washington these days. Maybe it’s when we listen to a podcast or scroll through substack and get stirred up by what we read or hear. Usually getting stirred up is not good. We are directed towards anger, and action that often flows from anger which can not be good. The text above from Hebrews talks about stirring one another up. Not to anger, but to love and good works, to worship and fellowship, to GOOD and not bad. In part, that’s what it means to belong to a church. We encourage one another. We get stirred up (in a good way) by others. For example, maybe you haven’t seen a friend in church lately. Give them a call, or send them a text letting them know you’ve missed them, or inviting them to lunch after church, or both. Invite someone to your connect group, or to our service project on June 6 and 7 after services. Encourage others. Stir them up. Point them back to Jesus, our hope and life. That’s what we do as part of the church! In His Peace. Pastor Cory
