When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” 2 Chronicles 7:3 As we prepare to complete the renovation project and hold the dedication for the building (mark your calendars for November 1st), I’ve been reading the passages in 2 Chronicles that relate to the dedication of the temple. I’ve noticed a couple things. First, Solomon remembers what God has done for them, leading them out of slavery and into the promised land. Second, he looks to the present; offering thousands of sacrifices on behalf of his people to the One True God as God’s presence fills the temple. The people celebrate with a feast that a whole week. Finally, he looks to the future, praying for God’s blessings to be upon the people, and praying that if they were to sin and repent, then God would grant them forgiveness and continue to bless them. As we complete our renovations to Peace, we look towards the past. We thank God for those who had the foresight to start a new congregation, for those who invested themselves in sharing Jesus with the children, youth, and adults of our community, and for those who gave generously to make sure Peace would continue to share the light of Jesus with our community. We look to the present, giving thanks for all those who gave generously of their time and gifts to make these renovations possible. And we look towards the future, seeking what God would have us do in this place in the next few months as well as in the many years ahead. For He is good, and his steadfast love endures forever.
