First Impressions Team
The First Impression Teams exist to provide a positive first impression of Peace to the members and guests of Peace each time they attend services by providing a welcoming, encouraging place to worship and connect with others. This team consists of a number of individuals each with a specific role at a given service, but also an informal role at the other services as well. From the time a guest enters the church, it is our goal that they are greeted at the door or in the narthex, that they are connected with a person who can walk along-side to help them understand the unique aspects of Peace and how we worship. The goal is not to overwhelm, but to make them feel welcomed, loved, and cared.
Training will be provided for each role. It is recommended that all people on the team receive training in each different area and that extra people are on a team, to help in areas that may be needed. The recommended team size is 10-12, which allows for absences and for people to fill in if a certain area is busy.
The different roles of the team members are:
Greeter: welcome everyone who enters into the church. When guests enter (especially first time guests), they are introduced and handed off to an Along-Sider.
Along-sider: walks alongside a guest to help them get registered at the Welcome Table where they receive information about Peace, bring them to the coffee bar, shows them how to check-in, and explains the basics of the service with them. It is important for this person, when not alongside someone already, to be scanning the gathering space to see if there is anyone who is looking like they might be new or simply looking for something.
Host: This person works with guests to get their information entered into People, and to give them an appropriate packet of information about Peace (families, youth, general) and gift cards for each person in the family to get drinks at the coffee bar. The host also takes written prayer requests for the service and gets them to the pastor for the prayers.
Fellowship Coordinator: Works with the team to provide coffee and snacks following service to encourage fellowship in the congregation.
Ushers : Greets each person warmly, encourages people to check-in, distributes bulletins, helps people find seats if the service gets full, collects offerings. The usher is often overlooked when making a first-impression on people.
Each team would serve one service a month and one 5th Sunday each year. The team members are to be present at least 30 minutes before service starts. When finished, the team will meet to discuss what worked well, what needs adjustment, guests connected with, guests not connected with, etc.
